Duct Tape Wallet
By: Filip
How about a duct tape wallet? I always find it fascinating when one material is used different to what it was made to do. We all know duct tape and many of us have it at home. In our minds, it is for one function only; stick things together. Now how about if we made a wallet out of it? Check out this site. These guys have been making ducttape wallets for years and now offer step by step instructions on how to make you own.
I think they look pretty cool too.

Cool Mac Apps
By: Filip
Here is one really useful mac app.
Like most people, our screens and desktops get cluttered within days and we always have to spend time cleaning them up. Also, in many ways the biggest problem with any OS is that we end up with many applications one and one sitting in front of another distracting you at all times. In other words, your screen is always cluttered with icons, windows, pop-ups, toolbars, etc..
This is a great app for mac osx that resolves that issue and lets you concentrate on what you are doing. The idea is simple ...if you ever used Alt-Click which hides current app when clicked on another app or the desktop ..this app does the same thing automatically. You can also shade or hide the desktop all together.
Give it a go and you'll see how much cleaner you screen gets. You can use this in conjuction with Apple+Tab command to switch apps if you hide your dock.
Enjoy

Voting Coming Monday!
By: Filip
Hello TShirt Lovers!
Just thought we let you know that voting is coming online on Monday.
We have been working very hard in the last week to get all the submissions together and format them for the site. Off course, in the future we would expect you to do most of the formating but as some of you already know, we are building the site as we go and it has been very hard work!
In the last week we have been trying to come up with the best way for you guys to vote for designs and we think you will like what we have in store for you. Its simple, straightforward and fun! The voting process will go on for 2 weeks in which period we suggest you get as many people as possible to vote for the designs.
We have also added some extra features to the site for you. On monday you will see that there is a new menu added to the top and it is called "My Allmightys". Here you will be able to see all your submissions and monitor how they are doing in the voting process.
Thank you all again for submitting great designs and off course, as always, if you have any suggestions, let us know. This site is for you and we hope to make it what you want it to be.
Yours,

A Story...

This is an interesting french site for storytellers and illustrators alike. It reminds me a bit of chinese whispers...
The idea is that anyone can submit an illustration with a story line based on what is there already...
I wonder how long they can keep it up and how the story is going to end...?

Phil Hansen
By: kon
A friend wrote this to me last night:
"forget T-shirts made out of cotton. A person today paints his own shirt on his chest..."
He is referring to Phil Hansen, who paints layer upon layer on his own chest with images of people who influenced him throughout his life. I find the technique really impressive, especially if you think about the difficulties to paint on yourself. Weird angle for the arms, weird perspective...maybe he is using a mirror, but I'm still sure it requires a lot of practice.
You can watch the video and the images on his site here...

Wasted Paper
By: kon
via Charles & Marie
"This is a new stylish Wastepaper Basket for the contemporary office, designed by Swedish Gabriella Gustafson & Mattias Ståhlbom. Globalization starts with getting the details right. The ISO standard paper size system covers a wide range of formats, but not all of them are widely used in practice. Among all formats, A4 is clearly the most important one for daily office use. The ISO paper sizes are based on the metric system. Using standard paper sizes saves money and makes life simpler in many applications. The Waste Paper basket varies in different sizes and all of them carries the dimensions from the A4-system. It is made out of laser cut and bent sheets of metal. They come in the same colors as the standard garbage bags carries."

Laser graffiti
By: kon
A few years ago in Berlin, some guys from the Chaos Computer Club used the facade of a building on Alexanderplatz for their purposes: using changing illumination of the windows you could play various games, create pictures and even call them up and interact.
This clip reminds me of that, although these guys are graffiti artists. The idea of a building as a canvas remains the same...
Have a look...

Markus Loerwald
By: kon
Markus Loerwald is another artist from the Raab Gallery who's work I find fascinating.
His main topic is classical: the female figure and its presentation. His approach is varied: he is a gifted printmaker, teaching this profession at the academy of arts in Dusseldorf, while also working on canvas and paper. There is a thoughtful and solemn quality about his perspective on the female form- a contemplation on beauty and eros.
"Nobody will blame you if you hang Loerwald's works in your living room because his nudes are of high esthetical quality. If you look at his works, they are enjoyable, make you think of the beautifully painted nudes in art history while at the same time you can just reflect upon their painterly quality, harmonious colours and fine talent for drawing. Eros in its figurative sense represented as a nude, eros in its abstract sence, representing beauty..."
The opening of his current show "Tender is the Night" is tonight, 7 p.m, at the Raab Gallery in Berlin...
Come along if you're around...

Space invaders
By: Filip
If you havent heard of space invaders, you must check this out. See especially rubrick cube series, amazing...and a lot of effort.
Who are you ?
I'm Space Invader (that's my alias). I always appear masked in public, so no one knows my face. Some people call me a polluter, others say I'm an artist. I prefer to think of myself as an invader !
What's the Space Invaders project about?
The idea is to "invade" cities all over the world with characters inspired by first-generation arcade games, and especially the now classic Space Invaders. I make them out of tiles, meaning I can cement them to walls and keep the ultra-pixelated appearance.
How many people are involved?
Just me. In the eight years I've been working on this project, I've traveled to 35 cities on all five continents with the sole intention of "invading" them!
Having said that, people have sent me photos of Space Invaders in towns I've never set foot in! I see it as a positive thing, a kind of tribute. I did consider setting up a group strategy but it's a hard thing to delegate. So while I don't encourage this kind of copying, I don't especially condemn it either.

Installing Windows Vista
By: Filip
This is just for fun. Its not that we dont like Windows, we do, but I am especially a fan of any underdog, in this instance Mac OSX. I do run windows sometimes on my Mac Book Pro but recently i have been thinking of upgrading my Boot Camp windows XP to Vista. I do worry that i am gonna loose all the little i have by installing vista and i can just imagine what it could be like for people who really rely on XP.
So, what is your experience of Vista? ... Have you tried it?...How did the installation go?
Luckily for us Mac users and because the hardware is the same across the board we are kind of guaranteed that the drivers will work, or not... its simple. I can just imagine what a nightmare it might be for someone who put a PC together themselves.
Maybe like this?...Check out this link...very funny!

Colour of my sound
By: kon
Have a look at this interesting little feature. When listening to music, did you ever think of what colour that song would be? Well, here's the place to find out...
"Synaesthesia is the mixing of the senses. Those affected by it hear colors, see sounds, and taste tactile sensations. When the two senses involved are sound and color, this phenomenon is no longer limited to synaesthetes: anyone, given a sound and time for contemplation, can ascribe color to that sound.
Often, these connections between sound and color will overlap from person to person. Color Of My Sound is an informal experiment to test that hypothesis. First, choose a sound category. Then, after listening, choose the color to which you are most strongly drawn. Give us your thoughts. Then, you can see how others voted for that particular sound."
Have a go here...
You can also upload your own tunes and see what colour other people associate with it. Sweet!

Charles and Marie
By: kon
Charles and Marie is an online get-together of experiences and products from around the globe. The idea is based on the old Question: "Oh cool, where did you get that?" The answer is a collective of lifestyle products from all over the world that are available to the customer for a limited amount of time. Also featuring is a personal tell-tale of visited places, hotels and sights...
It's a fun page to browse through and check out some of the funky items. I especially like the "soupe de jour" idea- one item for each day of the week, like a restaurant menu. Nice idea!
Have a look here and maybe you'll find something...

The Database of Virtual Art
By: Filip
Just came across this site. You could spend the whole day just going through the entries. A must see...
The Database of Virtual Art documents the rapidly evolving field of digital installation art. This complex, research-oriented overview of immersive, interactive, telematic and genetic art has been developed in cooperation with established media artists, researchers and institutions. The web-based, cost-free instrument - appropriate to the needs of process art - allows individuals to post material themselves. Compiling video documentation, technical data, interfaces, displays, and literature offers a unique answer to the needs of the field. All works can be linked with exhibiting institutions, events and bibliographical references. Over time the richly interlinked data will also serve as a predecessor for the crucial systematic preservation of this art.

More bags...
By: Filip
In my continued search for a new bag, i came across Carga.
Taken from inhabitat
Our newest admiration for form and felt… Carga Bags. The recycled felt bags come in three models and seem a perfect choice for laptop, briefcase or carryall tote. Designer Mauro Bianucci hand crafted the first bag for himself out of industrial wool felt left over from a previous project. The bag caught the eye of a client who ordered a few, and soon a collection was formed. The bags are currently hand assembled in Buenos Aires, using recycled industrial felt sourced in Brazil. Instead of brand logos, all bags come with a serial number hand embossed on a discreet disc allowing the design to speak for itself.
