Minilogue Animation

By: Kon

Here's a very cool stopmotion video created by minilogue. These two Swedes are actually a band with their own web appearance here, but they definately also know how to put together cool animations like this one, working very closely with the music visually as well.

Wall Mounted Rolling Sketchpad

By: Filip

I love reading Make magazine. Their posts are always full of fantastic ideas. Here is a link to one:

Wall mounted rolling sketchpad

Here is the story:
I like to sketch on vertical surfaces. I came across some wide paper rolls and wanted to figure out a way to use them as sketch pads. 20 minutes and $10 worth of closet brackets and dowels later, mission was accomplished. If you are not drilling brick walls like this, you should be able to throw something like this together in about 10 minutes.

Check out the site here for some other great ideas.

Members: Joe Gonzalez - New Work

By: Filip

Joe, one of our designers here at Allmightys has updated his site with a bunch of new work. In my recent conversation with Joe he mentioned he has just finished designing a book of 300 pages for "The Community Hospital", where he works..

Here is what he says:
I am having a book signing in Dec. for a history book that I designed for the Hospital that I work for. 300 plus pages, and each page was designed, no template. So the author and I are having this huge book reception and signing. Should be cool.

The Onion News Network

By: Kon

While I was in Chicago, I picked up several copies of the ONION, a satirical newspaper that has been published out of Wisconsin since 1988. In March, the Onion decided to go live with a broadcast, in the best tradition of video news parodies. Here you can find CNN-style news coverage like "Americans Enjoying Thanksgiving Tradition Of Sitting Around Airport" and "Ninja Parade Slips Through Town Unnoticed Once Again".

It's brilliant :) check out here...

Weewar - Innovation in Gaming?

By: Filip

We don't usually write about games on Allmightys but this is an exception. This is not just because neither of has has any time to play any games , well, maybe occasional game of halo3 for me (xfluxlab on xbox live), but those who know us, know that apart from allmightys we are also involved in a tone of other things. Game playing is something of a time commodity which we don't have ...until...we discovered Weewar.
Very rarely we come across software/games that are really innovative in the form of design and don't just try to appeal to mainsteam audience. Weewar is different, its a regular strategy game, stripped of all eye candy and brought down to its bare necessities of any strategy games. The graphics of the game also draw a lot from pixel art, simple, clean and acute.
Another great thing about Weewar is that its not the kind of game you have to sit in front of for hours. Because it's a web based strategy game, its a casual, relaxed, take a break kind of game. Kon and I have been playing one game for three days now, each one of us making moves when we have some time. Its not just that its really involving but also very relaxing to take your mind off thing and think hard about your next move. As in any strategy game every move counts.
The basic version available to anyone allows only a limited number of maps and weapons (perfect for beginners) but with an upgrade you get extra Air, Sea and Special forces, more maps and special buildings: Repair Shop, Airport and Harbour.

Check it out ..its great. If anyone wants an invite post a comment and we'll invite you into a game.

picture: I am blue, Kon is red. Do I have any chance? :)

The 'Bean'

By: Kon

The Cloud Gate in Chicago's Millenium Park, dubbed the 'bean' by the city's inhabitants, is Anish Kapoor's first outdoor sculpture in the United States. It's a very remarkable monolithic piece that mirrors the surrounding skyline beautifully.

The 110-ton elliptical sculpture is forged of a seamless series of highly polished stainless steel plates, which reflect the city's famous skyline and the clouds above. A 12-foot-high arch provides a "gate" to the concave chamber beneath the sculpture, inviting visitors to touch its mirror-like surface and see their image reflected back from a variety of perspectives.

Inspired by liquid mercury, the sculpture is among the largest of its kind in the world, measuring 66-feet long by 33-feet high. Cloud Gate sits upon the At&T Plaza, which was made possible by a gift from AT&T.

in Chicago...

By: Kon

So I am here in Chicago until the end of the week and it is a truly fantastic city. The mythical birthplace of skyscrapers does its name justice as the skyline and the amount of new construction here is incredible. I went to the Chicago Architecture Foundation yesterday, which hosts a small but dense exhibition of the city's evolution in terms of housing, transport and growth. "Chicago: You Are Here provides a tour of the spaces, places, and structures that define Chicago. It highlights the people who built the city, from the Sears Tower to the Illinois and Michigan Canal."

Very nicely done, so if you're in the area go check it out. Today's programme is the Art Institute...

Mech Tech Update

By: Allmightys Team

A little less than a week left to submit designs for our current "Mech Tech" competition. We've had some great entries already and if you haven't seen them check out our design forum.

We are now entering the period , last week, where things get very hectic and submissions  really start pouring in. If you are planning to submit please do so asap to avoid last minute rejection. Another great thing to submit early is that you can get community to comment on your design and you still have time to improve it/make changes. If you leave it too late ...then you are a little stuck. :)

For the new members, don't forget about our "Submit Discussion" option if you would like to discuss your design with other members or just fancy getting some feedback before you actually make the final submission. Its a great way to get inspired by other members of the Allmightys community.

Deadline to submit is 19th November, 23.00 GMT. We will be closing the submissions and opening Vote Designs the next day. It takes us about couple of hours to go through all the submissions and check everything is in order and ready for voting. When the voting starts you will see a new menu appear vote designs. Here you will be able to score all the designs and comment. Please tell us what you gave the design as we are sure designers appreciate all the comments they receive.

Voting ends on 10th December 2007, 23.00 GMT. This gives you, your friends other members about 3 weeks to vote. By the 10th we should have collected enough votes and comments to decide the winners.

Exciting times are ahead....long live Mech Tech! :)

Friday Animation: Worms

By: Kon

Here's today's animation: a beautifully animated film about two worms looking for their way to the outside world. It reminds me strongly of the Eastern European animations of the 70's, which I used to watch and love as a kid. Those guys sure know what they're doing..

Enjoy here...

Theorising Social Networking Sites

By: Filip

We've had few posts here about various social networking sites ..but here is an interesting post written by Jon here at WAG.

I have been thinking quite a bit recently about networks and architecture, partly for a paper for the recent Defining Space conference in Dublin (which I was unfortunately not able to give in person), and more generally writing around networks for my PhD (The Architecture of the Expanded Mind).

A fair bit of my recent work has been using Clark and Chalmers’ concept of the Extended Mind to think about what might constitute a bridge, of the kind that the geographer Manuel Castell’s describes, when he argues in The rise of the Network Society, Vol 1: The Information Age: “Unless cultural, political and physical bridges are deliberately built between these two forms of space [ie the ‘virtual’ space of flows, and the ‘physical’ space of places], we may be heading towards life in parallel universes whose times cannot meet because they are warped into different dimensions of a social hyperspace.”..........

Read more at The Polytechnic

The Polytechnic was founded in 2004 by Jon Goodbun, Richard Difford, and Will McLean. It exists as a very loose collection of individuals based largely but not exclusively within the architecture school at the University of Westminster, with vague shared interests in something like the roles of technology as a space of discouse within urban and architectural modernity. Collective activities of the Polytechnic have included building a rope computer as a workshop at the Material Matters conference at the University of East London in 2004, and the organisation of the Spatial Interface conference at the University of Westminster in 2006.The Polytechnic weblog was set up by Jon Goodbun and Filip Visnjic. It is intended to act as: i.a general notice board for the interests of the group, ii. a means of disseminating work in progress by members of the group, iii as a public discussion site for its interests.

Allmightys Update

By: Filip

As you may have noticed already the Autumn Sale is now over and the site is back to its clean slick look. We always thought that even though autumn leaves look cool the site just seem to cluttered, especially with all the sale banners ....but we are now back to its slick slightly reflective look......just playing :).

Lots of other thing happening in the next few weeks. First of all we have a bunch of new tees coming to the store in the next few days. These tees are from our recent "Once Upon A Time.." competition and let me tell you this ...they look extra cool. We also printed 4 of them larger than A4 size, A3+ actually and the look amazing..you'll see very soon. We are very anxious to get them into the store but the photos need to be done first and all the web content needs to be ready ...just few more days..

Mech-Tech competition is also going well. Things have started hotting up in the forums and its fantastic you guys are commenting on the designs. Make the most of the forum before the submission deadline and may we suggest that if you intend to submit you should do it sooner rather than later. This way you can get the community to comment on your submission, improve it and then re-submit. Also don't forget that if you have ideas, work in progress to share with the rest of designers, you can also submit a discussion. Once your submission is ready, use the submit design. This way you can avoid all that "Rejected" or "Retired" stuff knowing that your submission is loved by the community and has a very good chance of winning. After all, its the community and the votes that decide.

One more thing... wanna win some free tees incl shipping?........keep checking the site.....we are in a giveaway mood :)

Yours, Allmightys Team
