Designers: Chua Kim Meng
By: Filip
This week we bring you a little interview with Chua Kim Meng aka Mike, the winner of our second ever competition "Mother Nature" with the wonderful "Da Zi Ran".
Mike is an illustrator (digital) and print-base designer from Singapore, graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts in Communication Design and loves Manga.
Without further ado ... Hello Mke!

What inspires you Mike?
Japanese Manga, I would say. Since young, I have always liked drawing and doodling. Japanese manga and anime have the greatest influence on me. In fact Japanese Manga is the major reason why I chose to become a graphic designer.
Who are your favourite artists and why?
Too many...Toriyama, Norman Rockwell, Jason Brooks, Kelly Hyatt, Michael Lau, Ed Tsuwaki, Nico, Sato Lobo and many more... All these artists/illustrators/masters have their very own unique styles which are easily distinguished and recognised by everyone immediately. Something like a trade mark.

How do you produce your artworks and what mediums do you use?
Pencil and paper first, then transfer the sketch to PC/MAC using illustrator or freehand to do up the FA. I am a great fan of vector art/illustration.
What are the websites you visit regularly and where do you get your inspiration?
Almighty.com is definitely in : > I have about 260+ graphic house/artist/illustrator links from all over the world in my bookmarks list. There are another 280+ that I have collected but yet to visit.

What do you do when you are not designing?
Sleep (seriously lack of), reading manga and web surfing… I miss basketball a lot but am too lazy to push myself to a basketball court.
Do you think Allmightys has helped you become a better designer and how?
It’s a little too early to tell at the moment. But having different competition themes(interesting and challenging) do push a designer into a creative thinking process which is fun to do.
Anything else you would like to add?
It’s cool to see other designers/illustrators who share a common passion and learn from them.

Six New Tees!!!
By: Allmightys Team
After weeks of print the shirts from our 'Pattern Battle' competition are finally here! They all turned out amazing and we absolutely love them! 'Slum' on black with blue details just looks great, the details of two black ink on AA's New Silver, 'City Pattern' and 'Oil', are incredible, the white-mint print of 'Forest?' on the brown shirt creates a brilliant contrast and the idea of barcode just sooo works, 'Lost Love' is a stunner and we rasterized the design to make sure the shades in the skull, gradients and the brushwork turned out like they should, and finally the 'Little Town' is smashing in detail and it's richness and variation in colour.
Check them all out in our store!!!

As always, our tees are printed on high quality American Apparel 100% cotton sweatshop-free tees and if you order four or more tees we ship them for free!
Also remember is that at Allmightys, every time you order you are also supporting the artist. All Allmightys designers recieve commissions from sales and not only that but some tees also include donations to charities! At Allmightys, everybody wins!

Designers: Yonil
By: Filip
This week we bring you YONIL, one of our first designers with currently six designs in store. We sent Yonil few qustions to see what makes him tick. Read more below and make sure you check out his profile here on Allmightys, flickr and his own recently updated website for more great work.
Here we go..

What inspires you Yonil?
Well, mostly i'm inspired by the music industry, bands, musicians - i breathe music and i always find joy in finding out about new bands that i like and expanding the spectrum i listen to. this is also what drew me to graphic designing and illustrating - i draw from early age but never did i consider it anything other than a hobby 'til i found the magic in cd packaging and bands t-shirts...the possibilities there are simply ENDLESS!
other than music i also find alot of ispiration from the streets and steet artists, although i (still) don't do graffiti myself, the certain style and visual language always attracts me. also skateboarding, punk movement, and also paint splatters :)
Who are you favourite artists and why?
hmmm...that's a tough question since i can't put my finger on a peticular artists on which i can say "he's my favorite". the web (god bless it) has so many amazing artists to offer which sometimes makes me scared knowing there are millions of great minds out there. how do we still get jobs hehe...
if i have to point out certain names i can pull out four names : Rene Magritte (in classic painting), Derek Hess, David Foldvari (in illustration) and Vince Frost (in graphic designing). seriously though, i feel like it's a forced list 'cause there are so many great artists that are sometimes even more inspiring than these four.
How do you produce your artworks and what mediums do you use?
I draw. i take a pen, and some black markers and i draw. the computer is always the 2nd or 3rd base in my work. i know it's a cliche and that graphic designers always say "don't let the computer control you" - but that's not really why i work like this.
I draw by hand because i like it better like that - i like rough lines, not super sharp/clean illustrator lines, i like scanning shit and use the filth thats on my scanner as a part of the work, i like the details, the messiness - i believe it add another level to the piece.
as for mediums, mostly printed stuff. all bunch of them :) but i do try being interactive and i love using flash with which i built my website, so i do my best.

What are the websites you visit regularly and where do you get your inspiration?
www.flickr.com
www.itsnicethat.com
www.designiskinky.net
www.typeneu.com
and allmightys obviously, and always wonder through other designers websites.
What do you do when you are not designing?
i sleep.
i eat.
i spend time with my girlfriend.
sometimes i'd go out for a beer. but that's kinda rare lately.
Do you think Allmightys has helped you become a better designer and how?
I definitely think allmightys has exapnded my horizons in so many levels. when i first joined a competition, an online competition, it was here in allmightys. i won 2nd and 3rd place which was kind of overwhelming for me, a student in the end of hes 1st year. since then, i allmightys helped me understand better ways to speak to people through a design, see what people like and work for the public and not for myself.
so pretty much allmightys was one of the first stone in the building i am still building.

Anything else you would like to add?
One thing: it doesn't have to be big, full of details or something that took ages to do in order to be great design - i still think most of the world's population doesn't understand that good design isn't measured by the length of it's making...

A Virtual Berlin Wall
By: Kon
Staying on the topic of the Wall, today I found a neat project that was founded and is run by Tamiko Thiel and Teresa Reuter. These two have launched the "Virtual Wall", a digital reconstruction of a segment of the Berlin Wall. The project area lies between Kreuzberg and Mitte. The aim is a 3D interactive digital installation that will show the development of the Wall and it's surroundings in this area through time. Views will be from he East and the West side, so the user can freely chose from which angle he or she wishes to take a look at this dividing structure. The installation will premiere in the Museum for Communication in Berlin on August 13, 2008 and will be exhibited from August 14 to September 7, 2008.
I'm intrigued... check out their page here

Mauerpark Graffiti
By: Kon
The Mauerpark in Berlin is a green area that used to be enclosed by the Wall and was nothing more than a disused piece of wasteland. Since the reunification, the area has established itself as an outdoors space for the inhabitants of Prenzlauer Berg and northern Mitte. Since 1994 the area is officially called the "Mauerpark".
The park and the nearby Sunday market is frequented by many, among them lots of tourists, especially in the summer months. Allmightys have started selling shirts here on the market on Sundays as well ;)
The nearby wall is second only to the actual remains of the Wall concerning the amount and quality of graffiti. Hundreds of sprayers and street artists are having the time of their lives here.
check out some shots...

Designers: Sven Palmowski aka a.mar.illo
By: Filip
This week we bring you a little interview with Sven Palmowski aka a.mar.illo, our three time winner and a regular contributor to Allmightys' blog with his Weekly Badge Review.

What inspires you Sven?
Many, many things, can be a medieval print or some industrial ruins, whatever...
Who are you favourite artists and why?
There are really many of them, so these are just a few from the illustration sector:
Camilla Engman from Sweden, Jeffrey Decoster and John Casey both from California I think...Erkut Terliksiz from Turkey, Pietari Posti, finnish illustrator based in Barcelona... and, and, and...and why? They are cool, that's why;)
How do you produce your artworks and what mediums do you use?
I always start with a pencil sketch, convert it into a clean pen drawing using a selfmade "lightbox" sometimes, I scan it and add colours, corrections or effects in Photoshop, connected to a simple and small wacom pad (the cheapest on the market because I use it as mouse so it has to be renewable without great expenses;)

What are the websites you visit regularly and where do you get your inspiration?
Just a few examples:
http://www.hoboeye.com/
http://www.blanketmagazine.com/
http://www.skineart.com/
http://www.designboom.com/eng/
http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/
FAESTHETIC run a nice blog, but they are currently down:(
What do you do when you are not designing?
Go to the playground or to the beach with my son:)

Do you think Allmightys has helped you become a better designer and how?
It even made my a better person, haha... No, seriously, it is just a very cosy place to be for a designer. It's like family: At Allmightys a design doesn't get lost in a huge mass of designs, that´s a good thing.
Anything else you would like to add?
Thanks for asking me all that, now I'm hungry.
END
