Allmightys Mini-Contest: Winner!

By: Allmightys Team

We have a winner!

We asked you to write about "the future as imagined in the past" in the form of a comment to this post....and the winner is:
"
I figure it'll turn up. This is attempt #2. Let me know when you get this, because I've got to do some Christmas shopping soon. I can't trade in my gold bars for extra Christmas shopping cash since Nixon closed the gold window a few months ago, you know. Ha! I figured for the ceremonial first attempt, I'd write a grand message about how weird things would be decades into the future. So I wrote a message about how people will cook food with invisible micro rays and talk to each other with telephones the size of a stick of gum. What else - something about entire computers small enough to fit on top of your desk and everybody has one and uses it to talk to each other. Oh, and the Red Sox will win the world series. Twice! You know I love my Sox!

If I don't hear from you about this electronic mail, I'll call you like I did after the first try. I figure that message is off somewhere. Curling through circuits, the electrons still properly ordered, weaving its way through carpet static and car-door shocks. Someday it'll arrive on a machine that renders my crazy message to those living in the future itself. I know it can't have just disappeared down into this machine, as advanced as it is. It's out there somewhere. It'll turn up.

"

Designers: Miroslav Kostic

By: Filip

This week we bring you Miroslav Kostic. An artist and a "UFO freak" from Novi Sad, Serbia. Miroslav is out Silver Prize winner from our Mech Tech Competition with his White Robot.

We asked Miroslav few questions...read on. Enjoy..

What inspires you Miroslav?

I’m an internet addict so because off that I’m often inspired by the things I read or see on the web. When I was younger I watched too much cartoons, now I’m watching just a few but I’m still inspired by them and a memory of old ones that I kept in my brain still does a thing. I was never inspired by historically famous artist, I really appreciate them but not in the way to be truly touched by their art. I’m more like renaissance artist, trying to be better then others before me by using their knowledge and bringing it to a next level.

Who are you favorite artists and why?
My favorite artist is Gennady Tartakovsky, a guy who created cartoons like Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack and Clone Wars. I’m truly inspired by his art and ideas, he is the only artist I will like to meet. His style and stylizations are by my opinion best thing in animation that happend today. I’m really sorry because he has only few projects going on, he should be more appreciated and pushed forward.

How do you produce your artworks and what mediums do you use?
I produce most of my artwork for clients now, but I always have time to do something for myself. Currently I’m trying to bring to an end a long time struggle with my 27 minutes long animated movie. One night I came up with an idea for an animated film, that was four years ago and today I’m harassing guys that are doing music and sound effect to finish their job so we can make a premiere of the film. I did the rest of it from storyboard to editing and marketing, but I’m a real anti talent for music that part I left to them. My motto is: If you want something to be done, do it yourself.

What are the websites you visit regularly and where do you get your
inspiration?

Deviantart.com is my regular place, I also upload every single thing worth uploading to Coroflot.com. Deviantart is my prime inspiration place, this is a place where supertalented people upload their art, if you want to know what is going on in art today, this is the place. It is also full of wanabe artist and that is great because all of them are watching TV and searching trough web and living their lives in different places of the world and after all of that they sit and do a drawing or take a photo or make a collage or write a poem and they all upload it to a same place which became something like a vortex of ideas. I think that is amazing. I’m not working for Deviantart.com!

What do you do when you are not designing?

When I’m not designing I work on my UFO website. UFO’s are always been my passion. I’m not a UFO freak, I like to think of myself as of UFO investigator (that is pathetic!). No it is not, there is a phenomenon that exists and it is not fully investigated. I started a website that is a collection of UFO sightings over Serbia, so the people who had a real experience can share it with others. Beside of being Fox Mulder I like to go to the concerts, drink with friends, roller-skating and making barbeque.

Do you think Allmightys has helped you become a better designer and how?
Yes, I think it did. I gained more self confidence after wining a contest at Allmightys. I figured out that there are people all over the world that appreciate my art, and if you look on Google Earth, well that place is pretty big. So it is cool to be introduced to audience that big.

Sweatshop T-Shirt Exhibition in Breda

By: Kon

I'd like to take the chance to publish a few photos that were sent to me by Rob of staynice, one of the guys organizing this year's 'Sweatshop' T-Shirt graphic design exhibition. The actual exhibition, which ran in correspondence with the Breda Graphic Design Festival, closed at the end of June. According to Rob, the show was a big success and companies from all over the globe had their stuff on display. Needless to say, Allmightys was there too with a few shirts on display ;)

I think the guys did a brilliant job with the organization, design and display of the whole thing. I was really impressed and hope this won't be the only time we can show your work on our shirts in Holland or elsewhere!!

Lamy Noto by Naoto Fukasawa

By: Filip

I am one of those people who find it extremely hard to actually own a pen. I have tried too many times but always ended up loosing them. For some reason I have this great gift in loosing pens within a day. This has proved somewhat frustrating especially as some of these pens were quite wonderful. In the last years, I accepted this fact and resorted to cheap and cheerful '100 in a pack' pens. I would get the box, use it, not caring whether I left it on a train or chucked in the bin by accident.
Recently, I invested in a pack of Faber Castells that range from thin to thick. With an old Muji pencil case from about 15 years ago, I am committed to make these last. Looking at it at it now, there is one missing, but I am sure I left it in the office ..(hehe).

Now, back to the issue of Lammy...they have launched this new set of "noto" from the Japanese star designer Naoto Fukasawa. They are absolutely wonderful ..simple, yet gorgeous. They also come in few colours ...I think I'll be picking up one of each.

Enjoy.. lamy.com

Friday Animation: Bitfilm '08

By: Kon

In May, the Bitfilm Festival '08 took place in Germany. For today's Animation Friday, we want to bring you this very cool film about a man traveling to see his wife. Not such an extraordinary occurrence as such, but the realization of this film with just the everyday stick-man symbolism that we all know so well makes it a wonderful little piece to watch.

Catch it here...

Designers: Joe Gonzalez

By: Filip

Today we bring you Joe Gonzalez. A little interview and few words from one of our first designers. Joe has few tees in Allmightys store. First one is the "Drying Up", a special selection from our second ever competition Mother Nature then it's "Hanging with the crowd" from Monsters & Mayhem Competition, "A Few Good Men" from Mech Tech Competition and the more recent "We Need Help" from the I Am Thinking.. Competition.

Enjoy..

What inspires you Joe?
My family, surrondings, and fear, the last thing is more like what motivates me.
I find inspiration in the small things the way the light catches the trees on a sunny day, how the clouds seem to play with the sun light at dusk. I love to be stuck at a train and watch all of the graffetti go by and take note of the color combinations that are used by writers from god knows where. Inspiration comes at any
time and anywhere, what's exciting is what you do with it at the time.

Who are you favourite artists and why?
I really like Joshua Davis, his work is inspiring and extremely complex but the process that he uses to creat it is beauty of it. I once heard him speak at a conference and he is a real person and designer with brutal honesty that I can appreciate.

How do you produce your artworks and what mediums do you use?
A good old pencil to start with for my design work. I almost always start with pencil and paper, I make a dummy if its a complex piece and go from there. I sometimes will used scanned objects or patterns, but mainly I tend to lean toward the stick and pulp. Then my computer finishes it off.

What are the websites you visit regularly and where do you get your
inspiration?

Allmightys.com of course...my site miralcetwentyone.org to make sure its working and the server is not down. Allema.com for the same reason. MySpace.com for old highschool friends, thefwa.com to see the latest and greatest websites. Youtube.com to check out people singing my favorite songs (I secretly wish I could sing), adweek.com to stay up-to-date with industry news or to catch an article that I have might of thrown away. Google.com, for everything. And yahoo.com for email.

What do you do when you are not designing?
Spend time with my two sons and wonderful wife. Cut my lawn and spend time outside. Play basketball. Cut hair(one day I'll have my own barber shop) and cook.

Do you think Allmightys has helped you become a better designer and how?
I think so, I am more aware as a designer, its exposed me to many different points of views, styles, people and thier talents. I feel that the community has really grown with time and each of us have tried to do our part to help make allmightys what it is today with the best of our abilities. Seeing what can be done with one idea or topic is great, it makes you think about things in a different way. I think the competitions do that nicely.

Anything else you would like to add?
I would like to add that I am greatful to be apart of great community that has come along way, the exposure and promotion that everyone at allmightys has been
benefical to me in more ways then one. I just hope that it will continue to grow and get better.

End.
