Friday Animation: Oyasumi

By: Kon

Here's a little nicely drawn animation from Japan, animated by the talented Kazumi Hirota. Nice combination of drawing and rendered background. Check out more of his cool work at www.kazumihirota.com. The music is composed by Tatsuki Mori and reminds me a lot of Belle and Sebastian.

Friday Animation

By: Kon

Petra Mrzyk & Jean-François Moriceau are two artists living in Paris. They work with clean line drawings, placing them in galleries along 'normal' paintings, moving in and out of scale. They also do a multitude of animated drawings. Have a look at this great animation here...

Friday Animation: On The Way To The Ground

By: Kon

Here is today's animation, coming to you from maricor + maricar, a twin designer team.

Comments on youtube have compared this animation to the work of Monty Python's Terry Gilliam. Especially the somewhat robotic movement of the characters does remind you of the Python's short films, but these designers clearly show their own handwriting. I especially like the composition of the frames and the old school muppet string effect of the characters' surroundings, like the clouds.

Friday Animation: Walking

By: Kon

Here is a stop-motion animation by the artist BLU who we covered before in the blog.

It's interesting to see him using an entire room to have a series of characters walk along the walls.

Nicely done and well filmed!

Friday Animation: Defective

By: Kon

Today's Friday Animation is in tune with our current competition, which is in the voting procedure at the moment. There are still a few days left to score the current entries, so if you haven't voted yet, do it now :)! The lead characters are totally in the category MechTech :)

The film was made by Rani Naamani of the Vancouver Film School. I love it especially because of the use of facial expressions on the very simply crafted robot faces. What a pair of eyes and eyebrows can do...

Minilogue Animation

By: Kon

Here's a very cool stopmotion video created by minilogue. These two Swedes are actually a band with their own web appearance here, but they definately also know how to put together cool animations like this one, working very closely with the music visually as well.

Moebius Transformations

Here is a little film explaining the geometric Moebius transformations that are especially used for mapping.

Nicely done for the not so mathematically qualified among us :)
