Newsgator RSS Readers Now Free!

By: Filip

Few months ago we wrote quite a large post about RSS feeds + various newsreaders. The great news is that now all Newsgator RSS applications are free. These include NetNewsWire (my fav. mac newsreader) as well as FeedDemon (windows).

The great thing about NetNewsWire for Mac is also that it syncs with the NewsGator online reader so when you are on the go all the news you read on your desktop reader show as read on the online version...and vice versa.
They also have iPhone optimised version of their online reader so reading news on the go has never been easier ..and they stay in sync with your desktop.

Fantastic apps, definetly worth checking out: NewsGator

Also, don't forget to subscribe to Allmightys RSS feed to stay up to date with all the latest news from the blog.

UI Patterns

By: Filip

Here is one very interesting and pretty usefull site if you are a web designer or a client.
Here is a little description:
It has long been common practise to use recurring solutions to solve common problems. Such solutions are also called design patterns. Collections of software design patterns are standard reference points for the experienced user interface designer. This website seeks to better the situation for the UI designer, who struggles with the same problems as many other UI designers have struggled with before him.

Very useful indeed: ui-patterns.com

Digg Labs

By: Filip

Three months ago we wrote about Yahoo Innovation Team but did you know that Digg has its own innovation team? There isn't that much there but never the less very interesting to play around and read digg in a whole different way.

Check it out: labs.digg.com

"The labs provide a broader (and deeper) view of Digg. A lot of stuff gets submitted to Digg every day, so good things can sometimes fly right past you. Labs projects look beneath the surface of the Digg community's activities."

Polga - Wallpapers for your iPhone

By: Filip

If you are an owner of iPhone like Kon and I then you probably want to know about where to find some really nice desktops.

I only came accross polga few days ago and I have to say these are some nicest desktops around. It is a collection of wallpapers from selected artists and if you fancy yourself submitting some, then why not get in touch with poolga [at] cammaert.com  linking to some of your work.

Another place I found was this pool on flickr. There are some real jewels among many so-so ones. Check them out here (pages 26,28,29,30,31 and so forth).

Netscape Navigator RIP 1994-2008

By: Filip

A sad day is upon us. After 1st of february, AOL (current owner of netscape) will no longer support Netscape Naviator. For those unfamiliar with netscape this was one of the first browser out there that kicked started internet revolution. Going head to head with Internet Explorer, it was until mid  90's that Internet Explorer completley dominated the web usage.

I remember signing up to hotmail and college email for the first time on Netscape Navigator on one of the Solaris Unix systems we used for CAD. This was back in 1994 and my first ever experience with the web. Off course, back then there wasn't that much out there and newsgroups via Nescape were fantastic. Sad to see it go..
I wonder what Allmightys would have looked on the good old netscape ..probably wouldn't even load :)

RIP Netscape Navigator 1994-2008

Mimobot Flash Drives

By: Kon

Take a look at these brilliant USB flash drives. I think they are a brilliant combo of a technological gadget and design. Some of them are themed (Star Wars, Halo etc...) and some are individual. I especially love the Darth Vader one, but that's already sold out :)

If you're still looking for a cool Christmas gift, you could get one of these along with a cool Allmightys shirt ;) How about it?

Weewar - Innovation in Gaming?

By: Filip

We don't usually write about games on Allmightys but this is an exception. This is not just because neither of has has any time to play any games , well, maybe occasional game of halo3 for me (xfluxlab on xbox live), but those who know us, know that apart from allmightys we are also involved in a tone of other things. Game playing is something of a time commodity which we don't have ...until...we discovered Weewar.
Very rarely we come across software/games that are really innovative in the form of design and don't just try to appeal to mainsteam audience. Weewar is different, its a regular strategy game, stripped of all eye candy and brought down to its bare necessities of any strategy games. The graphics of the game also draw a lot from pixel art, simple, clean and acute.
Another great thing about Weewar is that its not the kind of game you have to sit in front of for hours. Because it's a web based strategy game, its a casual, relaxed, take a break kind of game. Kon and I have been playing one game for three days now, each one of us making moves when we have some time. Its not just that its really involving but also very relaxing to take your mind off thing and think hard about your next move. As in any strategy game every move counts.
The basic version available to anyone allows only a limited number of maps and weapons (perfect for beginners) but with an upgrade you get extra Air, Sea and Special forces, more maps and special buildings: Repair Shop, Airport and Harbour.

Check it out ..its great. If anyone wants an invite post a comment and we'll invite you into a game.

picture: I am blue, Kon is red. Do I have any chance? :)

Internet Map

By: Kon

The guys at thewholeinternet.com have created a map of all 4,294,967,296 IP addresses there are. The owner of each IP address is displayed by a grey box while IP addresses that are listed on the Spamhaus XBL blacklist are shown as red dots. It's quite amazing to see the see the huge amount of IPs mapped out like this, especially if you consider that the image on the left is a zoom factor of 4096 addresses per pixel...

you're in there, somewhere ;)

have a look...
