Designers: Yonil
By: Filip
This week we bring you YONIL, one of our first designers with currently six designs in store. We sent Yonil few qustions to see what makes him tick. Read more below and make sure you check out his profile here on Allmightys, flickr and his own recently updated website for more great work.
Here we go..
What inspires you Yonil?
Well, mostly i'm inspired by the music industry, bands, musicians - i breathe music and i always find joy in finding out about new bands that i like and expanding the spectrum i listen to. this is also what drew me to graphic designing and illustrating - i draw from early age but never did i consider it anything other than a hobby 'til i found the magic in cd packaging and bands t-shirts...the possibilities there are simply ENDLESS!
other than music i also find alot of ispiration from the streets and steet artists, although i (still) don't do graffiti myself, the certain style and visual language always attracts me. also skateboarding, punk movement, and also paint splatters :)
Who are you favourite artists and why?
hmmm...that's a tough question since i can't put my finger on a peticular artists on which i can say "he's my favorite". the web (god bless it) has so many amazing artists to offer which sometimes makes me scared knowing there are millions of great minds out there. how do we still get jobs hehe...
if i have to point out certain names i can pull out four names : Rene Magritte (in classic painting), Derek Hess, David Foldvari (in illustration) and Vince Frost (in graphic designing). seriously though, i feel like it's a forced list 'cause there are so many great artists that are sometimes even more inspiring than these four.
How do you produce your artworks and what mediums do you use?
I draw. i take a pen, and some black markers and i draw. the computer is always the 2nd or 3rd base in my work. i know it's a cliche and that graphic designers always say "don't let the computer control you" - but that's not really why i work like this.
I draw by hand because i like it better like that - i like rough lines, not super sharp/clean illustrator lines, i like scanning shit and use the filth thats on my scanner as a part of the work, i like the details, the messiness - i believe it add another level to the piece.
as for mediums, mostly printed stuff. all bunch of them :) but i do try being interactive and i love using flash with which i built my website, so i do my best.

What are the websites you visit regularly and where do you get your inspiration?
www.flickr.com
www.itsnicethat.com
www.designiskinky.net
www.typeneu.com
and allmightys obviously, and always wonder through other designers websites.
What do you do when you are not designing?
i sleep.
i eat.
i spend time with my girlfriend.
sometimes i'd go out for a beer. but that's kinda rare lately.
Do you think Allmightys has helped you become a better designer and how?
I definitely think allmightys has exapnded my horizons in so many levels. when i first joined a competition, an online competition, it was here in allmightys. i won 2nd and 3rd place which was kind of overwhelming for me, a student in the end of hes 1st year. since then, i allmightys helped me understand better ways to speak to people through a design, see what people like and work for the public and not for myself.
so pretty much allmightys was one of the first stone in the building i am still building.
Anything else you would like to add?
One thing: it doesn't have to be big, full of details or something that took ages to do in order to be great design - i still think most of the world's population doesn't understand that good design isn't measured by the length of it's making...
